5 Vegan Things To Be Happy About Right Now! [by Jackie Day]

The new year is bringing in some good news!

Here’s something to put a little extra pep in your vegan step!

Ag-Gag Law Overturned

The 2012 law that banned undercover video recordings inside agricultural production facilities in Iowa has been struck down! People can now document the horrors that take place inside of factory farms and puppy mills.

“Ag-Gag laws are a pernicious attempt by animal exploitation industries to hide some of the worst forms of animal abuse in the United States.  Today’s victory makes it clear that the government cannot protect these industries at the expense of our constitutional rights.”

-Animal Legal Defense Fund Executive Director Stephen Wells

Americans are Ditching Dairy

There’s a 1.4 billion pound cheese surplus in the U.S. right now; that’s an all time high!

Why?  Because SO many folks are switching to plant-based foods! Now that’s something to celebrate!

Not only is Taco Bell introducing new vegan options, this year, they’re creating an entirely separate, dedicated veg/vegan menu! In the meantime, here are a few vegan goodies you can order at Taco Bell right now.

California’s Foie Gras Ban Stands; U.S. Supreme Court Refuses to Hear Challenge

The U.S. Supreme Court announced it will not hear a challenge to California’s 2004 ban on the production and sale of foie gras.  After years of legal battles, the 2017 rule upholding the ban, which originally passed in 2004, will stand. This is great news for ducks and geese.

“Foie Gras” means “fatty liver” in french – and it’s produced by jamming tubes down birds’ necks and force feeding them until their livers expand many times larger than they should be; a horrifically cruel process.  Thank you for letting the California law stand, United States Supreme Court!

So, chin up, vegan-buttercup.  There’s a lot of work still left to do, but there are many victories to be grateful for, too.

Times they are a changin’!  Compassion for ALL.
