Have you seen the movie Chocolat? With Julliet Binoche & Johnny Depp? Well, for some reason, that scrumptious hot chocolate that Vianne makes in the film just popped into my head when I was strolling through the store today, and voilà, I’m here in the kitchen this evening experimenting!
If you like romance or chick flicks or France or chocolate, I think you might like the film! Alas, back to that “special” chocolate! The secret is hot pepper!
For my 1st experimental cup, I heated up 1 cup of vanilla almond milk, 1 teaspoon of brown sugar, 2 teaspoons of cocoa powder and a dash of cayenne pepper… and it came out really well! (you just have to blend super well so there aren’t pockets of cocoa powder). You can of course experiment and use agave in lieu of sugar if you prefer, or add cinnamon or extra “heat”.
However, to my horror, I used my last cup of almond milk and screamed “Noooooo!! Not in the middle of making my romantic hot french chocolate!!”, so thankfully my husband just dashed out to get more.
Upon his return, I’ll head back to the kitchen and resume cooking a new batch! Perhaps creamier and thicker this time, like the the ever~so~seductive cup Vianne made in her quaint chocolaterie. Mmmm…
Have a sweet & relaxing evening!
