Hot Off the Plate! Chef Tanya does it again!

Two thumbs up to Chef Tanya Petrovna and Native Foods! I had the good fortune of being invited to the Pre~Opening Party at the newest Native Foods location in Culver City, California last night and let me tell ya, the food was fantastic and the hospitality superb! I knew it would be great, but seriously, they went all out for this one!

Everyone who attended was allowed to eat as much as they wanted, so I didn’t hold back! I enjoyed the vegan “Chicken Run Ranch Burger” which I’ve had many times before, and the Neuvo Native Nachos.

The nachos are made with homemade corn tortilla chips, covered in black beans, “Native Taco Meat”, “Native Chipotle Crema”, “Native Cheese”, salsa fresca, and guacamole. All of which is topped with corn, green onions and cilantro. I also had two cupcakes and vegan pumpkin cheesecake! All of which I washed down with a bottomless glass of refreshing watermelon fresca, lightly sweetened with organic agave.

My husband ordered the Classic Deli Ruben, Sweet Potato Fries, an Oklahoma Bacon Cheeseburger and a piece of Cheesecake with blueberries on the side. Oooh, did I mention the deep fried pickles?! I couldn’t resist snatching them from his plate. SO yummy!

The staff was very friendly and the ambiance was fun and eclectic. There’s really no downside to report! Just happy to have another awesome vegan eatery in Southern California. And here’s a tasty tip! Check out Native Food’s facebook page and website for promotions and specials! That’s how I scored last night’s delicious evening for free =)

Lastly, here’s something you may be wondering about…

What’s in the “fake” meat?

Chef Tanya’s “Tempeh” (Tem-Pay): An artisan food of Indonesian origin, now made by Chef Tanya, considsting of cultured organic soybeans and millet. Rich in protein, iron and antioxidants.

Native Seitan (Say-Tahn): Also known as “wheat meat”. A hand-made process initiated 2,000 years ago in the Near East and modernized in the Native Foods’ Kitchen. Provides a complete protein with a delicate meaty texture. They have Original seitan, Sausage Seitan, Peppered Seitan, Mexican Seitan, Reuben Seitan, Native Chili Meat and Taco Meat (which was on my lovely nachos!).

Native Chicken: Native Chicken is made from soy, wheat and pea protein. Cruelty free!

The new Native Foods opens to the public tomorrow and is located at 9343 Culver Blvd., Culver City, CA 90232. For more information regarding their other locations, hours, cooking classes and menu, visit

If you’ve recently had a great experience at a vegan restaurant, please share it here! There are SO many to choose from 🙂 Bon Appetite!

Thank you Native Foods!
