Thanks to animal rights activists, Barnum’s Animal Cracker boxes have a new look. The cages are gone, and the animals are finally running free! The animals are no longer trapped on box cars en route to the circus.
Why the change?
Thanks to popular demand! People are starting to realize how horrifically cruel it is to trap wild animals and force them to do tricks.
As I mention in The Vegan Way, animals in the circus are repeatedly poked, prodded and shocked; that’s not entertainment, that’s a sadistic horror show. Only a weirdo would want to watch that!
Companies know if they want to sell their products, they need to reflect the growing desire to create a more compassionate world.
And when it comes to eating, the shift is towards cruelty-free products, not only in respect to their ingredients, but in messaging, too.
According to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, “The new box for Barnum’s Animals perfectly reflects that our society no longer tolerates caging and chaining exotic animals for circus shows.”
Compassion sells; cruelty doesn’t.
According to a statement by the parent company, “To continue to make the brand relevant for years to come, we felt this was the right time for the next evolution in our design, now showing the animals in a natural habitat.”
Goodbye Ringling Brothers Circus – which shut down last year! And good riddance to those cramped, cruel cages on the boxes of Barnum’s Animal Crackers. Cruelty and cookies just don’t mix!
Times they are a changin’!
