Times they are a changin’!
ONE! After nearly 100,000 online “thumbs up” in support of the idea, Starbucks will finally offer Almond Milk! I’ve submitted many Starbucks comment cards over the years asking for almond milk, and chances are many of you probably have, too.
According to Starbucks, adding almond milk to their already existing soy and coconut milk options is a move in the right direction:
“More than half (58 percent) of all U.S. adults consume non-dairy milk, and almondmilk is the most popular option with 60 percent of the non-dairy market, according to Mintel Data, which tracks grocery shopping habits” – Starbucks Press Release
Great to know that starting September 6th, almond milk at Starbucks will finally be a reality. Even if you don’t like Starbucks, you’ve gotta like that they’re about to have another vegan option for those who do. That’s the power of the people, folks! I’ll drink to that!
TWO! If you’re anxiously waiting for Hampton Creek to release its “Just Scramble” – heads UP! Follow Your Heart is about to release their liquid VeganEgg this winter, and I’ve got a feeling it will be out before Hampton Creek’s scramble! VeganEgg will be in an easy to use carton, so you won’t have to worry about mixing anything up. Just pour it in a pan and scramble, or dunk a slice of bread in for some vegan french toast!
THREE! WhiteWave, owner of Silk and So Delicious Dairy Free, was just purchased by a French dairy company for $10.1 BILLION dollars! (yes, that’s billion!) Some may see this as “selling out,” but in my mind, it’s a very positive move; it’s a sign that vegan food is on the fast track to becoming mainstream, here, there ,and everywhere! This HUGE purchase is proof, yet again, that vegan food companies are a VERY valuable asset! Vegan food is HOT and everyone wants in on the deal! HURRAY!
FOUR! Did you know sprinter Morgan Mitchell is VEGAN? Yep! You can catch Morgan sprinting at the Olympic Games in Rio on Saturday, August 13th and Friday, August 19th. She’s Plant Strong and a smart cookie, too!
“I have been vegan for a year and a half. That’s really helped with everything: energy, health, the environment. I am one of those people who actually cares. It’s what I chose to do.”
~ Morgan Mitchell, Olympic Athlete
and… FIVE! There’s a new vegan book in the world! It’s Santa’s First Vegan Christmas written by Robin Raven, with beautiful illustrations by Kara Maria Schunk. The reviews are lookin’ GOOD and I can certainly see why. This festive and uplifting children’s story is filled with peace and love.
Gone are the whips forcing reindeer to pull a heavy load across the globe. And there’s no glass of dairy milk stolen from baby calves left for Santa on the table.
Instead, a very wise reindeer named Dana enlightens Santa, and inspires him to see the holiday season in a whole new way: a celebration of compassion and freedom for all, as it should be. Santa’s First Vegan Christmas adjusts a few holiday traditions allowing Santa and his friends to deliver joy to the world, without causing harm or despair.
Congrats to Robin, Kara and Vegan Publishers; I think they’ve got a holiday hit here!
